I understand how to kill digger wasps for the nests that I can see, but it appears that they are also in my juniper grass.  How do I kill them without seeing the nests and without killing the juniper?

Dear Bugspray: We have a type of wasp that is digging around our pond and creek. It looks like we have gopher piles all over. It is a low area and very wet. When I looked online I found a lot of info on wasp but nothing that really replicated our situation. I think they are mud wasps but not sure. Can you help me out and what would be the best way to get rid of them??
Thanks.
This is an easy one. Since there are hundreds of species of ground nesting wasps and bees, there is no way to tell for sure what species you have. Fortunately this doesn’t matter. What does matter is a good treatment using the ESFENVALERATE listed in our DIGGER WASP CONTROL ARTICLE will knock them out. You can also use our CYPERMETHRIN if you have this in stock; it works just as good on wasps.
Don’t forget to apply some CYFLUTHRIN GRANULES since it’s most likely the active wasps have already laid eggs. If they have, the eggs are no doubt buried down deep below where the liquid will reach so putting out something that will permeate down in the soil a bit is required. Eggs will develop over the next month or two and cause a reinfestation if left untreated so they’ll probably come back if you only do 1 liquid spraying.
Lastly, understand that if the nests were there last year, it will take awhile for you to see complete results since emerging pupae are impossible to kill. Pupae would be the stage left over from last years population (they stay in this stage throughout the winter) and only when all of the pupae hatch will the infestation run it’s course. The liquid and granules will kill larvae and adults now as well as the eggs. But pupae are too well protected and if nests were there last year, there could be a lot of pupae hatching right now.
Here are direct links to the information and products listed above:

We have many many wasps, I think, swarming around our front door in the pine bark.  I can’t see where they are coming from.  They disappear at sundown. How do I know what they are?  And what can I try to get rid of them?

The only place the mud daubers like to leave nests on my house is over the front entry on the ceiling. I have heard that painting the ceiling sky blue will keep the daubers from nesting there. Is this an effective technique or just a useless idea?

I am terrified and horrified with the red paper wasps that continue to love my home. From your video I have learned a lot and also see that I am up against a lot as I have not known what to do for years and did not realize that they tag houses with a scent. So, I am confident that they are overwintering in the roof over my porch. I do not see the wasps nest, so in order to remove the nest after treatment am I taking up the roof? I will do this if needed. I’ll do anything to be rid of these hateful things! I am concerned that the nest is massive as this has become a growing problem for many years. (I am the terrified wife of a man who is more annoyed by my mouthing than the wasps.) We now have a child that would like to play outside, but not until the idea of a queen wasp in the roof is handled.
Lastly, I will wear the gear and keep the kid at the grandparents for a while until the angry wretches are all dead, but is it best to buy all this gear and do it myself or are there not many pest control agencies using the methods discussed here?
Thank you for your informative videos. I have searched for a long time and never found you until tonight. I have dug up plants that I thought attracted them and various other things to no avail. I greatly appreciate your help!!

We live in a house with log siding that has attracted wasps since we moved in. We built it 3 years ago and all year I am killing wasps inside the house, even in the winter, sometimes up to 3 or 4 a day.  We have small children, one that has been stung twice now, and I am getting desperate.  I called some exterminators and they basically told me there was nothing they could do if I did not know where a nest was at. Help!

Saw your article on line…thanks for the info.  In addition to the nests they have built on my house, which I now know how to deal with, there is an area in my lawn that stays pretty much constantly damp due to my neighbors sprinkler system. I see the mud daubers digging in the mud there all the time.  Can I put the Cypermethrin in the grass where they congregate…would that maybe chase them away to find their mud elsewhere?
